Are you thinking of obtaining Spanish nationality? Then you have surely heard of the CCSE <\/strong>(Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain) exam. Sounds complicated, right? But don’t worry, it’s not as scary as it seems. And to help you understand everything (yes, EVERYTHING), we have prepared this complete guide from the Instituto Hisp\u00e1nico de Murcia<\/strong>, the official examination center of the CCSE. So take note, because what you are going to read can bring you one step closer to your new Spanish passport.<\/p>\n

What is the CCSE exam and what is it for?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The CCSE exam is an official test developed by the Instituto Cervantes<\/strong> with a very clear purpose: to assess your knowledge of the Spanish Constitution<\/strong>, the fundamental laws and the social and cultural life of the country<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In other words, it serves to show that you know the basics (but important) about how Spain works: its government, its values, its history, its traditions, its territorial organization, etc. It is like a “citizenship test”, similar to the one done in other countries such as the US or the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

And yes, it is mandatory<\/strong> if you want to obtain Spanish nationality by residence, with some exceptions (such as minors or people with special abilities).<\/p>\n

Who can take the CCSE exam?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This exam is aimed at foreigners over 18 years of\u00a0 age <\/strong>who are in the process of applying for Spanish nationality by residence or by naturalization card<\/strong>. It doesn’t matter your country of origin: if you reside in Spain and you have been there for the required time (usually 10 years, although there are exceptions such as for Ibero-American citizens or refugees), you have the right to do so.<\/p>\n

Did you know that more than 300,000 people<\/strong> have taken the exam since it was implemented in 2015? This shows not only the interest in nationality, but also the desire to integrate into Spanish society.<\/p>\n

What exactly is tested on the CCSE test?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Here’s the interesting thing: the exam consists of 25 multiple-choice questions<\/strong> (with three answer options), and you only need to get 15 questions<\/strong> right\u00a0 to pass. Easy, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

The questions are grouped into two large blocks:<\/p>\n

Government, legislation and citizen participation in Spain (60%)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Is the CCSE exam difficult?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Not at all. The required level is quite basic and accessible. You don’t need to know technical vocabulary or have a very advanced level of Spanish. In fact, it is designed so that anyone who has lived in Spain for a while (and has integrated minimally) can pass without great difficulty.<\/p>\n

    In addition, you have two opportunities <\/strong>included in the tuition: if you fail the first one, you can repeat once without paying again.<\/p>\n

    Do you have levels like the DELE?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    No! Unlike the DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language) exam, which is divided into levels from A1 to C2 according to your knowledge of the language, the CCSE is a single exam<\/strong>. There are no different levels or versions: the content is the same for everyone, regardless of your country of origin or your level of education.<\/p>\n

    How much does it cost to take the CCSE exam?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The price is regulated by the Cervantes Institute. In 2023<\/strong>, the cost was \u20ac85<\/strong>, and this amount includes:<\/p>\n

    • Access to the official preparation manual<\/strong> (available for free in PDF).<\/li>\n
    • Two chances to pass.<\/li>\n

      Where can I take the CCSE exam?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The CCSE is offered in more than 240 authorized centers<\/strong> inside and outside Spain, and the Hispanic Institute of Murcia<\/strong> is one of them. Yes, you can take your exam right here with all the guarantees!<\/p>\n

      The calls are monthly (usually on the last Thursday of each month), and you can choose the center that suits you best when registering.<\/p>\n

      What happens if I don’t pass the first time?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      Don’t worry. As we already said, you have two attempts included<\/strong> in the tuition. If you do not pass the first time, you can apply again at no additional cost, as long as it is within 12 months of<\/strong> your registration.<\/p>\n

      And if you still don’t make it… You can pay again and file again. There is no limited number of times to do so. The important thing is not to give up!<\/p>\n
