Patrick’s experience:

Murcia is a great microcosm of what Spain is in its essence. I spent a month in Murcia whilst attending the Instituto Hispánico de Murcia, and was immediately immersed in all forms of what Spanish culture is at its core. It has everything from natural beauty, architectural elegance, history, and of course food. The school was all round a great experience. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly that it took only minutes until I felt fully integrated, and the teachers presented great decorum with great attention to detail and an unrivalled delicate care.

If stunning views and beautiful scenery is what you’re after, then Murcia is quite possibly the best place to be in Spain. Containing beautiful buildings deriving from Contemporary, Eclectic, of course Gothic, and other styles of architecture, Murcia is filled with astonishingly intricate buildings and monuments. Murcia is also not without its fairytale-esque scenery. La Fuensanta provides a stunning view overlooking all of Murcia from the perspective of a gorgeous rustic sanctuary which blended beautifully into the landscape and inspired tranquility from every crevice. The town is perfectly situated to visit the picturesque beach of Cartagena, which I believe encapsulates what the quintessential Spanish beach should aspire to.

The school itself was great in every sense of the word. When evaluating a school’s performance I think of three things: the school itself; the building; the classrooms, and whatnot, the teachers, and the management staff (or head teacher), and the instituto excels in all three areas. The teachers were all warm and welcoming, the other staff were equally as welcoming and even more helpful with any issues, be it with the school or otherwise, even helping students find accommodation, and the school was perfectly placed in the town centre and easy to access.

Everything above were grand selling points to attend a Murcia school as opposed to other schools and the architecture was certainly a great contender for my favourite part of my all too brief sojourn in the city. But without a doubt my favourite element of Murcia was the brimming culture. From food to theatre Murcia had it all. With countless cinemas, two theatres, and a drama school it was hard to choose which outlet of entertainment to most admire. Although, gun to my head, I would have to say Teatro Circo (coincidentally situated next door to the school) was my favourite just due to the fantastic quality of the programming. From the plays to the concerts The Teatro Circo housed such exceptional artists from around the world.

Murcia is an unforgettable place. I am grateful to it for what it has offered me, and am even more grateful to the Instituto Hispánico de Murcia for the amazing time I had in Murcia. If you choose to pick this school, I promise that it will not be a choice you regret.

Me pareció ideal poder conocer muchas culturas diferentes.
