What's included in the DELE prep course?
This Spanish course in Murcia is specifically designed to prepare for the DELE exam or the SIELE exam, the only exams with official recognition by the Spanish State and the Instituto Cervantes, which is why they are so important when looking for a job.
It is based on a comprehensive review of the requirements of each section of the exam itself, so you will study specific topics related to it: specialised vocabulary, written and spoken expressions, listening and reading comprehension, debates on current affairs and, above all, the main weaknesses of the student will be addressed.
This course consists of individual and personalised lessons so that your teacher focuses on your specific needs according to the level of the exam you want to take.
Our programme includes classes with native teachers, mock exams and continuous assessments to improve your language skills and prepare you for the exam. You can consult previous years’ exam papers and take a mock exam, allowing you to evaluate your progress.
And one important thing that you won’t find in all Spanish schools: our teachers are official DELE examiners.
Have you got the lowdown on what the DELE exam is?
DELE stands for Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera. These diplomas are official qualifications accrediting the degree of competence and proficiency in the Spanish language, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture.
The Instituto Cervantes organises the exam sittings, while the University of Salamanca designs the exams and is responsible for the marking and final evaluation of all exams.
The grade acts as a certification to show that you have reached a certain level of proficiency in the Spanish language.
Who can take this exam?
Anyone can take any of the DELE exams as long as they can prove that they are a citizen of a country where Spanish is not the official language. Registration is easy and can be done online.
Does it come with an expiration date?
Once you successfully pass a DELE exam, the certificate you receive is timeless – no need to go through the process again!
How many levels are there?
The exams are divided into six levels:
Levels A1 and A2
They assess competence in the basic areas of Spanish and show the ability to communicate on general topics. Family, work, shopping and some other common topics are part of these levels.
Levels B1 and B2
They are a bit more challenging. They deal with understanding texts and situations that may occur when travelling, test your writing skills on simple topics, as well as your ability to express thoughts and opinions.
Levels C1 and C2
These are the most difficult exams and certify that those who pass them have a high level of language proficiency. They test your ability to understand complex texts, your fluency in communication and your ability to write about complex subjects.
The tests demonstrate competence in all areas of language learning: reading, writing, speaking and listening. The higher the level, the more challenging the exam questions will be. That’s why we recommend that you take classes with us so that our specialist DELE teachers can help you pass the exam.
How much does the exam cost?
One of the disadvantages of the DELE exam is its price.
Exams at each level have to be paid for separately, and prices usually increase as you move up the levels. And it is important to note that prices may vary depending on the centre where you plan to take the exam.
To give you an idea, the price of the A1 exam in Spain is approximately €125 and the C2 exam is approximately €225. Here is a link to the Instituto Cervantes website for updated prices.
One important thing is that you don’t have to pass all the above levels to get a C2 diploma. You can take an exam for any level you want if you feel ready.
When and where can you take this exam?
DELE exams can only be taken on specific official dates, and all centres around the world hold their exams on the same days.
It is important to remember two things when deciding on the date of your exam:
- Not all levels are offered on all dates.
- You have to register for a specific date before the end of the registration period.
You can check all available dates on the Instituto Cervantes website.
How do you know which level to apply for?
The level of the exam you want to take will ultimately depend on you and your knowledge of Spanish, but you will need a second opinion from a professional to confirm your judgement.
Our teachers will have enough information about your Spanish skills to give you an answer that suits you personally.
Generally speaking, we always advise our students to aim for a higher level than when they start preparing for the exam.
Obviously, there are exceptions, but whatever you decide, it is crucial that you choose a specific level before you start preparing for the exam, because the syllabus for each level is very different.
We don’t think the DELE exam is difficult. However, it is very, very, very demanding.
Depending on their level of Spanish, the same DELE exam can be easy for you but super difficult for someone else. Although, if you take a look at the DELE syllabus, you’ll probably have a heart attack. There is so much to cover that it seems never ending. But it includes everything, not just your specific test.
The last thing we want to do is to waste your time on unnecessary topics, ignore something important or waste your money.
Some DELE exam resources to help you pass the exam successfully
Since most of these resources have courses or materials for each level of the exam, they are all suitable for anyone preparing to take one. It’s just a matter of choosing a resource or course that suits your time and financial needs.
Choosing a home preparation method is a flexible and certainly less expensive option than attending structured classes, but whatever your time or budget, we have a course that will work for you! Our courses are designed to help you become familiar with the structure and content of the exam, and to help you improve your overall language skills.
That’s why we always recommend that you use our study programmes led by experienced specialists, as well as some of these DELE preparation materials:
- Preparación DELE (Spanish edition): It is a collection that covers all six levels of the exam. There are two books for each level. These books offer various practice tests, test guidelines and test-taking tips.
- “El cronómetro”: This book is purely exam preparation, which means that it only covers the types of questions you are likely to encounter in the exam. The practice tests in the book provide examples of what you can expect in the real exams. And, perhaps the best part, there are answer keys, so it is possible to check and work on potential weaknesses.
- Other recommended books to prepare for the DELE exam are: “Preparación al Diploma de Español. Nivel B2” by Edelsa, “Preparación al DELE. C1” by SGEL, “Preparación al DELE. C2” by Anaya ELE, “Prisma. C1” by Editorial Edinumen, and “Técnicas de preparación al DELE” by Editorial Edelsa.
- And, of course, the official website of the Instituto Cervantes offers important resources for this purpose.
You will find that there is a lot of material published in print by various publishers or that you can find online. It is even possible to find good material on social media, but be careful, not everything is good.
Using these materials along with our tailored classes, you can prepare for the DELE exam with confidence and successfully attain certification for your Spanish proficiency.
