Train to work in the emergency services sector in Spain
Take an intermediate-level or an advanced-level programme and prepare yourself to work in civil protection, emergency coordination, risk prevention and intervention services. And what about the public services, such as the fire brigade or rescue services? Vocational training is highly valued as preparation for these professions, but entry is through a competitive public examination (oposición), and each call for applications sets its own requirements, including those on nationality and residence.
The emergency services programmes you can study
The difference, in one sentence: one programme prepares you to intervene directly in emergencies, while the other focuses on coordinating and managing incidents. They are two complementary profiles within the same sector.
Intermediate level (Grado Medio) or advanced level (Grado Superior) in emergency services?
Direct intervention in emergencies
The programme in Emergencies and Civil Protection prepares you to take part in rescues, provide assistance and act in emergency situations. You can access it with officially recognised secondary education (homologación), without needing Bachillerato.

Emergency coordination and management
The programme in Emergency Coordination and Civil Protection prepares you to plan resources, draw up emergency plans and coordinate operations. You access it with officially recognised Bachillerato, and it allows you to go on to related university studies.

The natural route is to start with the intermediate level and continue with the advanced level: the Technician qualification gives you direct access, and field experience counts when you move on to coordination roles.
And if you don't speak Spanish yet
You do not need to know any Spanish to join the programme. There are two stages: six months of an intensive course at our school in Murcia — accredited by the Instituto Cervantes — from zero to B1.2 – B2.1, and then your vocational programme.
In emergency work, communication is essential. You need to understand and pass on instructions clearly, because you will be working with protocols, intervention teams and people in critical situations. That is why the programme starts with an intensive Spanish course.

You will be training for organised services, with structured shift work, continuing training and, in many roles, stable employment.
You can also start with an intermediate-level programme and then continue with an advanced-level one, to keep moving forward professionally without changing sector.

Spanish and the visa
These are the two steps before the programme. We handle both with you.
Six months of Spanish
The programmes are taught in Spanish, with Spanish classmates and teachers. That is why the programme starts with the language: six months of an intensive course at our school in Murcia, accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, from zero up to the level you need to follow a vocational programme, with an exam at the end.
If you already have a certified DELE B2, you skip this stage and go straight into the programme.
Student visa
Being enrolled at a school accredited by the Instituto Cervantes allows you to apply for the visa. The language is not only a language: it is the key to the paperwork.
We support you with the documentation — admission letter, enrolment and health insurance — which is where most applications are refused, because the paperwork was not submitted properly.
If you come from the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you do not need a visa.

What people ask us most about emergency services
Can I sit competitive public examinations (oposiciones) with this qualification?
Yes, as long as you meet the requirements of the call for applications. Each competitive examination sets its own conditions, such as the qualification, nationality or residence. Some emergency service posts, firefighting posts in public bodies among them, are normally restricted to Spanish or EU nationals, so check the requirements of each call before you plan around it.
What is the difference between the intermediate level and the advanced level?
The intermediate level is geared towards direct intervention in emergencies, while the advanced level focuses on coordination and planning. In addition, the Technician qualification gives you direct access to the advanced level.
Do I need to be in a particular physical condition?
To study the programme, there are no physical entrance tests. For some of the competitive examinations afterwards, there are: each one has its own tests and its own scoring criteria.
Does it include the ambulance driver or lifeguard qualification?
No. Those are certifications separate from the programme. If you are interested in them, we will tell you what the requirements are and how to obtain them.
Students who arrived without a word of Spanish
Since the year 2000, 9.403 students have studied with us, most of them from the Maghreb, West Africa and much of Europe, and nearly all of them started the same way: without knowing how to say hello. You learn through immersion and in small groups, in a city where living costs little and you practise Spanish from day one.
