Study an Intermediate Level (Grado Medio) programme in Spain as an international student
It is the quickest route to an official Spanish qualification and to the qualified jobs it opens the door to. You do not need Bachillerato: having your secondary school studies from your own country officially recognised is enough. We help you with the three things that usually hold an international student back — the language, the recognition of your studies and the visa — while you concentrate on studying.
What a Technician qualification gives you
It is the shortest route from where you are now to qualified work in Spain.
You start sooner
In the trades you learn on an intermediate-level programme, the official qualification is not an extra: it is the requirement to be allowed to practise. Nobody is taken on as a nursing assistant, or put on board an ambulance, without a qualification.
A qualification that is understood abroad
It is not a private academy diploma: it is an official qualification of the Spanish education system, valid throughout the European Union. What you study in Murcia is worth the same in Spain and in any other EU country.
Intermediate Level programmes
They all lead to the same official Technician qualification and follow the same structure: 1.5 – 2 years, work placements in companies included and the door open to an Advanced Level programme afterwards. Choose according to the job you want to do.
Can you access an Intermediate Level programme?
These are the official requirements. If you studied outside Spain, what you need is to have your secondary school qualification officially recognised (homologación) — we explain how below.
With your secondary school qualification
Spanish compulsory secondary education certificate (Graduado en ESO) or its officially recognised equivalent
Technician or Auxiliary Technician qualification
Basic Technician qualification
The second way in
Entrance exam for Intermediate Level programmes
A specific preparatory training course
Professional certificates of the corresponding level
Important: the Intermediate Level is the level you access with secondary education. If someone has told you that you need Bachillerato, they were talking about the Advanced Level, which is a different level.
An Intermediate Level programme is not a ceiling
This is what almost nobody tells you at the start: the Technician qualification you obtain gives you access to an Advanced Level programme. You do not have to go back and take the Bachillerato.
If you do not meet the Advanced Level requirements today, this is not a consolation prize: it is the first step on a route that goes just as far, and with two official qualifications in your hands instead of one.
Getting your studies recognised does not have to cost you the academic year
Yes, you do have to get your secondary school qualification officially recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Education. It is a procedure that takes several months and requires your documents translated into Spanish and legalised.
But you do not have to wait for it to be resolved before you enrol. And that changes the whole planning of your year.
Conditional enrolment certificate (volante de inscripción condicional)
It is the document you are given when you submit your recognition application. It allows you to enrol while your file is being processed, on the same terms as if the recognition had already been granted.
The enrolment is conditional: if the recognition were resolved on different terms, it would cease to have effect. That is why the first thing we do is review your file and tell you whether your qualification fits — before you leave your country.
Spanish and the visa
These are the two steps before the programme. We handle both with you.
Six months of Spanish
The programmes are taught in Spanish, with Spanish classmates and teachers. That is why the programme starts with the language: six months of an intensive course at our school in Murcia, accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, from zero up to the level you need to follow a vocational programme, with an exam at the end.
If you already have a certified DELE B2, you skip this stage and go straight into the programme.
Student visa
Being enrolled at a school accredited by the Instituto Cervantes allows you to apply for the visa. The language is not only a language: it is the key to the paperwork.
We support you with the documentation — admission letter, enrolment and health insurance — which is where most applications are refused, because the paperwork was not submitted properly.
If you come from the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you do not need a visa.
Would you rather not deal with the paperwork?
We offer an optional external professional service that handles the whole application for you. It is voluntary: you can do it yourself or request this service.
What people ask us most
Can I study an Intermediate Level programme without Bachillerato?
Yes. The Intermediate Level is precisely the level you access with secondary education. Bachillerato is needed for the Advanced Level, not for the Intermediate Level.
And what if my secondary school qualification has not been officially recognised yet?
You can enrol anyway with the conditional enrolment certificate, while the Ministry processes your file. We review your case before you start the procedure.
How long does the whole course take?
The Spanish course, six months. The programme, between a year and a half and two years depending on the one you have chosen. If you already have a certified B2 in Spanish, only the programme you have chosen.
Is the qualification valid outside Spain?
Yes. It is an official qualification of the Spanish education system, recognised throughout the European Union.
Are there work placements in companies?
Yes, they are part of the programme and they take place in real companies. They are often the way in to a first contract.
Can I work while I study?
The student visa allows you to work within certain limits on working hours. We will explain the exact conditions that apply in your case.
Students who arrived without a word of Spanish
Since the year 2000, 9.403 students have studied with us, most of them from the Maghreb, West Africa and much of Europe, and nearly all of them started the same way: without knowing how to say hello. You learn through immersion and in small groups, in a city where living costs little and you practise Spanish from day one.

Hi everyone! It's my turn to share my wonderful and exceptional experience at Instituto Hispánico de Murcia. To begin with, I’d like to highlight the atmosphere inside the classrooms. It is fun, highly motivating, and on a completely whole new level that makes learning so easy, using modern teaching methods and digital tools. As for the teachers, they are highly experienced. I would like to take this opportunity to special thank Teresa and Javier, who accompanied me on my 8-month learning journey... guys, you put in even more effort than I did! All the teachers put in an incredible amount of effort to help everyone learn and convey ideas in every possible way. The same goes for the rest of the team, from the reception to the director, Felipe. They always ensure everyone's comfort and have helped me since the very beginning of this journey. They even lent me a helping hand after my studies ended to help me pursue my educational path here. Everyone's treatment was fantastic, without exception. They made us feel as if we were at home in a truly family-like environment, which helped me make friends with students from all over the world. On top of all that, I cannot forget the cultural activities and trips to the city's most famous landmarks, which were the best way to get to know the local culture and integrate quickly. As for the city of Murcia, what can I say! It’s a city where you feel authenticity and cultural richness in every corner. Its festivals give it a wonderful vibrancy, and the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. A word of advice for anyone reading my review in the future! If you want to learn Spanish and live an unforgettable experience, I recommend Instituto Hispánico de Murcia 100%. All the best to you all!Posted on Google

t's more than just a school. It's a wonderful place where teachers are there to guide you through your studies. This allows you to progress incredibly quickly. Great teachers can make you want to immerse yourself in Spanish, even after you've left the classroom. They'll tell you which Spanish books to read, what music to listen to, and what films to watch. These recommendations make it not only enjoyable but also a valuable support in your language learning. Teresa is the best language teacher I have ever had. She is absolutely professional and loves teaching. Besides she knows modern Spanish culture very well. Is is very helpful for students. And she is very warm i nice person. After my course I have a great motivaton for learning.Posted on Google
