What it is for

What can you work as with a vocational qualification in Sport?

You can work in gyms, sports clubs, leisure centres and active tourism companies. The Region of Murcia, with its coast, its mountains and sport all year round, offers a good number of job opportunities.

Trainer and instructor in gyms

The most direct route out of the physical fitness programme.

Group fitness training

Group classes, programmes for older adults and reconditioning work.

Guide for activities in the natural environment

Hiking, cycling, mid-mountain routes and canyons.

Leisure and active tourism instructor

Summer camps, adventure companies and hotels.

Municipal sports programmes

Sports schools and local council activities.

Clubs and federations

Technical support and grassroots work in teams and schools.

Both programmes include work placements in companies, such as gyms, sports clubs or active tourism companies. These placements are often the way in to a first job.

What we offer

The sport programmes you can study

There are intermediate-level and advanced-level programmes. All of them are official qualifications from the Spanish education system, with work placements in companies and validity throughout the European Union.
Advanced Level
Sport

Physical Fitness

The difference, in one sentence: one programme prepares you to guide sport and adventure activities in the natural environment; the other, to design and lead training and physical fitness programmes in gyms and sports centres.

Before you choose

Intermediate level or advanced level in sport?

It is not only a difference of level, but of profession. Choose the field you want to work in and then the programme that best fits your goals.
Intermediate Level

Outdoor and Leisure Activity Guiding

  • The programme focused on the natural environment. It prepares you to guide groups and organise sport and adventure activities outdoors. You can access it with officially recognised secondary education, without needing Bachillerato (upper secondary education).

  • How do you get your secondary school qualification officially recognised and what documents do you need? → Intermediate-level requirements

Advanced Level

Physical Fitness

  • The programme focused on training. It prepares you to assess people's physical condition, design training programmes and lead the sessions. You access it with officially recognised Bachillerato and, once you have finished it, you can go on to related university studies.

  • What requirements do I have to meet and how do I get my Bachillerato officially recognised? → Advanced-level requirements

And with the intermediate-level Technician qualification you move on to the advanced level with no further entrance exams: many people take that route and end up working in both fields.

Starting from scratch

And if you do not speak Spanish yet

You do not need to know any Spanish to join the programme. There are two stages: six months of intensive course at our school in Murcia —accredited by the Instituto Cervantes—, from zero to B1.2 – B2.1, and after that your vocational programme.

In this sector, being able to communicate is essential. You will have to give instructions, correct exercises and keep people safe. That is why the programme starts with an intensive Spanish course before the vocational training begins.

Why the qualification matters here

In Spain, working in sport normally requires an official qualification.

Gyms, sports clubs and active tourism companies look for qualified professionals.

Vocational training gives you that official qualification, recognised throughout the European Union, and prepares you to enter the labour market on a solid footing.

What that means for you

The qualification opens more doors at work

Holding an official qualification lets you apply for the roles that require a recognised qualification, in gyms as well as in sports clubs and companies in the sector. It is the way to be eligible for a stable job with better opportunities for professional development.

BEFORE YOU START

Spanish and the visa

These are the two steps before the programme. We take care of both of them with you.

STEP 1

Six months of Spanish

The programmes are taught in Spanish, with Spanish classmates and teachers. That is why the programme starts with the language: six months of intensive course at our school in Murcia, accredited by the Instituto Cervantes, from zero up to the level you need in order to follow a vocational programme, with an exam at the end.

If you already have a certified DELE B2, you skip this stage and go straight into the programme.

STEP 2

Student visa

Being enrolled at a school accredited by the Instituto Cervantes allows you to apply for the visa. The language is not only a language: it is the key to the paperwork.

We guide you through the documents — letter of admission, enrolment and health insurance — the areas where most applications are refused because the paperwork was badly prepared.

If you come from the EU, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland or Liechtenstein, you do not need a visa.

Would you rather not deal with the paperwork?

We offer an optional external professional service that handles the whole application for you. It is voluntary: you can do it yourself or request this service.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Yes. The advanced-level programme in Physical Fitness is one of the most highly regarded official qualifications for working as a personal trainer in gyms, sports centres and other physical activity settings.

Yes. You access it with officially recognised secondary education, without needing Bachillerato. It is the ideal option if you want to build your career in outdoor sport and adventure activities.

Do the work placements take place in real workplaces?

Yes. The placements take place in gyms, sports clubs or activity companies, depending on the programme you choose, and they are often the way in to a job.

Who we are

Students who arrived without a word of Spanish

Since the year 2000, 9.403 students have studied with us, most of them from the Maghreb, West Africa and much of Europe, and nearly all of them started the same way: without knowing how to say hello. You learn through immersion and in small groups, in a city where living costs little and you practise Spanish from day one.

Hi everyone! It's my turn to share my wonderful and exceptional experience at Instituto Hispánico de Murcia. To begin with, I’d like to highlight the atmosphere inside the classrooms. It is fun, highly motivating, and on a completely whole new level that makes learning so easy, using modern teaching methods and digital tools. As for the teachers, they are highly experienced. I would like to take this opportunity to special thank Teresa and Javier, who accompanied me on my 8-month learning journey... guys, you put in even more effort than I did! All the teachers put in an incredible amount of effort to help everyone learn and convey ideas in every possible way. The same goes for the rest of the team, from the reception to the director, Felipe. They always ensure everyone's comfort and have helped me since the very beginning of this journey. They even lent me a helping hand after my studies ended to help me pursue my educational path here. Everyone's treatment was fantastic, without exception. They made us feel as if we were at home in a truly family-like environment, which helped me make friends with students from all over the world. On top of all that, I cannot forget the cultural activities and trips to the city's most famous landmarks, which were the best way to get to know the local culture and integrate quickly. As for the city of Murcia, what can I say! It’s a city where you feel authenticity and cultural richness in every corner. Its festivals give it a wonderful vibrancy, and the locals are extremely friendly and welcoming. A word of advice for anyone reading my review in the future! If you want to learn Spanish and live an unforgettable experience, I recommend Instituto Hispánico de Murcia 100%. All the best to you all!

t's more than just a school. It's a wonderful place where teachers are there to guide you through your studies. This allows you to progress incredibly quickly. Great teachers can make you want to immerse yourself in Spanish, even after you've left the classroom. They'll tell you which Spanish books to read, what music to listen to, and what films to watch. These recommendations make it not only enjoyable but also a valuable support in your language learning. Teresa is the best language teacher I have ever had. She is absolutely professional and loves teaching. Besides she knows modern Spanish culture very well. Is is very helpful for students. And she is very warm i nice person. After my course I have a great motivaton for learning.

Good morning. I have successfully completed the A1 level course at your institute. I found it very beneficial; the teachers were excellent, effectively explaining the grammar and fundamentals of this level. I would like to express my special thanks to the administrative staff for their attention, and a particular thank you to Professor Yahya. I look forward to continuing my studies at all levels with you. Thank you all so much for everything. 💥💯🙏 B. Bouchra.
