What is the pass rate in the Region of Murcia?
In the Region of Murcia, the pass rate for the university entrance exams (PCE) has been notably high in recent years. In 2024, 96.2% of students passed these exams, marking a significant increase compared to the previous year.
This pass rate places Murcia among the autonomous communities with the best PCE results, sharing this percentage with other regions such as Galicia and Castilla-La Mancha.
What is the difference between PCE, EBAU, and SELECTIVIDAD?
The main difference between the PCE (Pruebas de Competencias Específicas) and the EBAU (Assessment for University Access) lies in their focus and target audience:
Number of subjects tested:
- PCE: Typically includes up to 4 subjects, although in some cases, 6 may be allowed. These tests are primarily designed for international students or those from foreign education systems who wish to access universities in Spain.
- EBAU: Students take up to 6 subjects, including mandatory and optional subjects. It is aimed at students who have completed Spanish secondary education (Bachillerato).
Target audience:
- PCE: Designed for students coming from non-Spanish educational systems or those who need to validate their secondary education diploma to meet university access requirements.
- EBAU: Exclusively for students completing their Bachillerato in Spain.
Structure and purpose:
Both exams serve the same purpose: to evaluate and score students for admission to Spanish public universities. However, the EBAU follows the Spanish Bachillerato curriculum, while the PCE allows some flexibility in subject selection depending on the desired university degree.
In summary, both exams are pathways to university, but they cater to different audiences and have slight differences in format and focus. SELECTIVIDAD is the former name for the university entrance exam.
What level of Spanish do I need to take this exam?
The level of Spanish required for the Selectividad/PCE exam according to the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) is B2.
A B2 level indicates an advanced competence in Spanish. Candidates at this level can:
- Understand complex texts.
- Express themselves clearly and in detail on various topics.
- Participate in deeper discussions.
This means, for example, that you must have the linguistic ability to explain the details of a problem, make complaints, and resolve conflicts using arguments and persuasive language. You will find more details here.
